Awards Banquet

The ACES Student Awards Banquet is held annually in April. Recognized Honors and Awards: The Student Awards Banquet is an opportunity for the college of ACES to recognize outstanding contributions from College undergraduates. The banquet provides the opportunity for each ACES Club to recoginze their outstanding members, each ACES department to honor their outstanding students, and the college to present its Bronze Tablet Honors, its Outstanding Undergraduate Research Award Recipients, and the prestigious Robert M. Harrison Outstanding Junior Leadership Award Recipients and the Warren K. Wessels Outstanding Senior Award Recipient. ACES Council Awards: The Established in 1999, the ACES Council Awards were created to honor those clubs and individuals who best demonstrate the qualities outlined in the ACES Council Constitution. Awards are given to the best ACES Club Advisor, the best ACES Club within the College, the Outstanding Student Service Award on the ACES Council, and the best New Member of ACES Council. Recognized Honors and Awards Bronze Tablet Honors A tradition at the University of Illinois since 1925, the Bronze Tablet award honors consistent academic performance. Criteria for Bronze Tablet Honors are * Earn a 3.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale for all work taken at the University through the academic term prior to graduation. * Rank in the top 3% of their graduating class for their college through the academic term prior to graduation. Bentley Award recognizes junior and senior ACES James Scholars that have exhibited success in their research projects. The competition is for the best-written project report of research results and is submitted to the Honors Dean. Honors are given for three deserving students for first, second, and third places. Robert M. Harrison Outstanding Junior Leadership Award The Robert M. Harrison Leadership Award is made available each spring to an outstanding junior in the College of ACES. This award was initiated as a memorial tribute to Mr. Harrison following his death in 1986. Robert M. Harrison was actively involved in diverse campus activities during his enrollment on the University of Illinois campus from 1929-1933. He was active in agricultural clubs, Sachem and MaWanda honoraries, and served as senior manager of the 1933 football team. Following his graduation in 1934, he embarked upon a professional career that included employment with the Livestock Bureau of Armour and Company, the War Food Administration, the Rural Electrification Program, and advertising sales with numerous agricultural magazines. Robert Harrison believed in education and the life-long educational process. The Robert M. Harrison Leadership Award is therefore given to a junior who has demonstrated a commitment and leadership in a diversity of ways. Warren K. Wessels Outstanding Senior Award The Warren K. Wessels Achievement Award is presented each year to a graduating senior within the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences. Warren K. Wessels was an Assistant Dean in the University of Illinois College of Agriculture for 36 years (1958-1994). During that time he dealt with thousands of students as he carried out his roles as recruitment coordinator, orientation class instructor, and placement director. His encouragement for excellence; demanding, yet fun-loving personality; and sense of commitment to each individual student was well known. He touched the lives of countless persons during those years and his influence lasted beyond the students graduation. Selection of the Wessels Award recipient is based on scholarship, leadership record, participation in professional development activities, and contribution to the overall quality of life within the College of Agriculture, Consumer and Environmental Sciences.
